TransBiodiesel, Ltd.

About Us

TransBiodiesel production of biodiesel is considered one of the hottest research and development topics worldwide. In this regard, the enzymatic conversion of oils and fats to biodiesel offers a very attractive alternative compared to the chemical reaction routes. Economic evaluation of the enzymatic process shows however that the industrial feasibility for this biocatalyst is still far from real application.

TransBiodiesel has identified potential recyclable enzyme preparations characterized by their high degree of tolerance to high concentrations of methanol and also high resistance to enzyme-deactivating factors, such as peroxide value, chlorophyll and glycerol, which can be used for "green" conversion of oils and fats to biodiesel on commercial scales.

The Market

The company is considering plans to commercialize its technology by offering different types of products/services:

  • Sales of the immobilized enzymes as a stand-alone product through direct sales channels and/or OEMs.

  • IP-based agreements with enzyme and carrier manufacturers and distributors.

Team

TransBiodiesel was established in May 2007 in the Incubator for Technological Entrepreneurship – L.N. Innovative Technologies Ltd., located in Haifa, Israel. Currently, the company employs the Founder and four other employees.

Dr. Basheer is a leading expert in the domain of enzyme technology. He has founded three successful start-up companies based on his pioneering work in the field of enzyme technology. The most successful is Enzymotec

Dr. Emad Masoud, R&D Manager
Dr. Masoud has broad experience in the field of enzymes and their application on industrial scales. He was responsible for the large-scale production and commercialization of several products.
Mohamad Kayal (M.Sc. Chemical Engineer)
Eng. Kayal possesses extensive experience in the field of Enzyme Technology. He was responsible for the development and commercial production of several products  using enzymes.
Maisa Haj (Chemical Engineer)
Eng. Haj has spent more than 5 years working on the field of enzyme modification and their adaptation for biosynthetic processes.
Ahmad Hindawi (M.Sc. Food Engineering and Biotechnology)
Eng. Hindawi has spent more than 3 years working on the development of enzymatic processes for biosynthetic applications.

Statuse

Within the last year and a half the company has succeeded to raise a total of US$ 2 million from the Israeli Ministry of Trade and Industry (US$500K) and from AquAgro Fund LP (US$1.5 million). The company is currently seeking additional investments from financial or strategic investors for the construction of a pilot scale demonstration site and for marketing the technology.
