Develop novel optics for LEDs general Lighting

Background:
New regulations for electricity consumption drive the lighting market to more efficient light emitting diodes (LEDs) and fluorescent lamps. While the fluorescent lamps spread light in all directions, the Light Emitting Diodes are usually coupled to concentrating optics for directional illumination. Current technology for light concentration requires relatively large space (much larger than the LED alone) and as much as 15% losses of light is lost. The technology of Magic Lighting Optics is expected to solve these issues and become a standard addition to any LED lighting source.

2. Reduce space requirements for each LED.

Market
The market for general lighting is estimated at $100 billion. Sales of LEDs for general lighting summed up to $ 2 billion in 2008 and they are expected to grow as $5 billion in the year 2012. In the long run, LEDs are expected to take 25% and more of the lighting market.

Team
Dr. Meir Ben Levy is the inventor, cofounder and CTO of Magic Lighting Optics. Dr. Ben-Levy holds a Ph.D. Degree from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and he has 20 years of industrial experience in development of illumination systems for imaging and automatic inspection.

Status
The technology is patent pending, a prototype expected in Q3 of 2010.
